0.8.4: the Battle Balancing Update
This week's update makes battles a lot more fun. Player characters, enemies, and equips all have had their stats redistributed in a more systematic way to give battles more push and pull than they had before. You can also now choose a class for your character on a new save, with your options being Bear, Jock, Otter, and Geek. Each one plays differently, so they're all worth trying out 😊
Read on for the full release notes!
⚠️You will get the most out of this update with a new game, but your old save will still work⚠️
What's New:
- New type matchup system/consistent weaknesses & resistances for more engaging battles
- Choose from Bear, Jock, Otter, or Geek when you make a new save
- Bears have high defensive stats and an Earth affinity
- Jocks have high attack and speed with a Sky affinity
- Otters have high luck with a Water affinity
- Geeks have high special attack with an Electric affinity.
- Enemy stats have been updated to fit into consistent tiers that suit each monster's intended difficulty level.
- The empty Factory can now be fully explored. There are no game mechanics, but you can still go see how it's laid out.
- The Couchpig now leaves behind the Flame Trident when defeated.
- There are now some hidden items and equips in the Warehouse dungeon.
- New item: Ritual Mushroom
- deals Mythical damage to an enemy.
- New equip: Sacred Mushroom
- dropped by Sporacle after defeating it. Grants access to the move Blood Sacrifice.
- New Equip: Ectoplasmic Glob
- left behind by The Shadow of A Man after defeating one. Grants access to the move Shadow Cloak.
Fixes and Updates:
- The Come Back Pack has a better icon
- The Come Back Pack now works as intended when you don't have additional party members
- Fixed an issue where you would instantly get the Employee ID when entering the hotel lobby at night.
- Updated certain items to deal elemental damage
- Yelp now lowers Special Defense long enough for you to do something about it
- Shell Shield now works
- There are now 4 colors of water (with updated borders!)
- Turquoise water, which is almost all of the outdoor water
- Dark blue water in the caves
- Shallow, light-colored water. Seen in puddles, running down cave walls, and in some buildings.
- Red nasty water, seen in the western caves.
Last Time:
- Most/all NPCs have names, voice SFX (animal crossing vibes), and at least 5 lines of dialogue.
- Added a new sidequest that unlocks after the corporate office dungeon is completed
- Anger Milk: a drink that hurts but gives you heavy stat boosts
- Enemies can no longer see you in the dark. Strategically unequip your torch to sneak past enemies, but don’t forget you move slower in the dark!
- All non-weapon equips have been recategorized into simpler terms: Hats, Tops, Bottoms, Shoes, Accessories, and Special.
- This means any equips you are currently wearing will be glitched out unless you remove them before updating,
What to test:
- Fight as many different enemies as you can at as many different levels as you can.
- Do any enemy movesets stand out as being too overpowered, too repetitive, or using status moves too much?
- Does the player feel too overpowered, like you aren't taking enough damage or win too easily?
- Try out the dungeon challenges for the hotel, mall, and warehouse.
- Were you able to find your way there?
- Was there anything that was too confusing or difficult?
- Was the boss fight any good?
- Explore the overworld and caves
- How far can you get without the proper equipment?
- Did you get stuck anywhere?
- Did you get lost?
- Are there any areas that are missing something?
- Are there any areas that look bad?
Known Issues:
- Entering Tüle may cause unexpected results. Probably best to stay out for now.
- Some NPCs might not have the right voice sound effect, especially if their lines are triggered not by directly talking to them (ie: cutscenes, shops, etc)
- If you find an NPC/scene/whatever with no voice or no name or the wrong voice or name, please let me know.
- Some NPCs may cause all text after you talk to them to use their voice until you talk to another NPC with a voice.
- Some NPCs might appear in more than one place at the same time.
- Level up screen doesn't have enough contrast
- Certain climbing ropes have glitchy behavior.
- Some cave areas are barebones.
- You cannot visit the Heart Rose guy at his apartment.
- If you lose to certain enemies, the game might act like you died twice.
- Please comment or message me if you find one that does this
- The game may crash when stepping on certain specific tiles
- please comment or message me if you find a spot that does this.
- Additional party member graphics are incomplete
- Graphical issues with some outdoor tiles & fences
- There is a slight “jump“ as you cross over into a new area
- Food items in the mall might appear a full tile higher than where they should.
