⚠️MAJOR UPDATE: 0.9.0⚠️

Huge update this time! This version of DWMC gives access to all 6 dungeons, all enemy encounters (except the final boss), and adds more items and a new battle system. Due to the extensive changes, older saves are not compatible with this version.

What’s new:

  • In response to player feedback, the battle system has changed from an active time gauge-based system to a dynamic turn-based system.
    • No more extended periods of waiting or being struck down while choosing a move
    • You can now see the turn order on the right side of the screen
    • Certain moves or items can change the turn order
    • Pretty much everything else is the same
  • Added produce, drink, and meal healing items, all with different effects.
    • Produce recovers a small amount of HP & SP and gives a stat boost
    • Drinks and meals restore a medium or large amount of HP & SP, either giving a positive status effect or removing a negative one.
    • Produce and drinks can be bought at any Smol Mart
  • The Factory can now be explored, and Hydra Tower can be entered.
  • All enemies and hidden bosses can now be found. New arrivals include:
    • Flobule
    • Robocelot
    • Scandalabra
      • eventually will provide hints upon defeat
      • torch 'em!
    • Orbituary
    • Chiminemenea
    • Magnetick
    • Crocogon
    • Glow Jelly

What’s changed:

  • Player characters have higher stats more on par with enemies
  • Player characters now learn more basic-type moves by leveling up
  • The title screen now reflects the in-game time of your most recent save
  • All healing items now restore both HP and SP
    • The amount of recovery and effects have been changed on all existing food and drink
  • Various tweaks to status effects and moves that apply them
  • All story boss encounters now contain 3 or more enemies
    • hidden boss encounters and the sisters still only feature 1 enemy
  • Enemies now resist negative status effects of their own type
    • Slick can't get wet, Flobule can't catch fire, Ham Hawk can't get distracted, etc
  • Tweaks to enemy movesets & the levels they learn moves
  • Tweaks to item & equip placement
  • Guards now appear in the mall at night

Known Issues:

  • The shopkeeper at Wrap takes a long time to walk over to you
  • Entering Hydra Tower may or may not prevent movement. Make a hard save before entering to be safe.
  • Not all vending machines can be used
    • No new food or drinks can be bought at vending machines
  • Few or no new meals can be acquired
  • Many item specials show the wrong icon
  • most of the shadow man’s specials show incorrect text
  • picking up certain equipment will show dialog that doesn’t make sense
  • some equipment pieces and other items have incomplete icons
  • using a freight elevator in the warehouse, then leaving the warehouse without using the freight elevator again will cause strange behavior the next time the freight elevator is entered.
  • several Slicks will still be visible as you leave the Daybreak Inn basement after defeating the boss
  • there may be an occasional crash or softlock during battles. the cause is unknown at this time
  • if you choose the "Swap" option with no weapon equipped, the game will softlock
  • there are some spots where you can enter the out of bounds area on the western edge of the map
  • accessing the Sludge Gun from the caves will cause it to respawn when you return to that area from the overworld

It's really inspiring to see these chunky updates coming through. I'm stoked to check all of this out!

thank you! If you try it out, let me know how you feel about the battle and puzzle difficulty, along with which class you choose ☺️

I'll def take a look as soon as I can find some time!
One thing that stood out to me when first playing a while back was that I quickly had access to attacks (and battles in general) that I as a player didn't know all of the basic rules for. You have neat in game/aesthetically sound names for status effects and the like but I think I got a bit overloaded with the info and wasn't able to battle as efficiently as expected compared to the challenge that was presented in the battle.
Maybe this has been tweaked since but I figure some tutorials/education weaved in there early on could help :)

Yes, I have slowly started adding some tutorialization but there definitely needs to be more. Now that I’m nearly done with the main story, I’m able to work more on that aspect of things. I would expect a better tutorial by 0.9.3 if not sooner
