0.8.10: A New Day at the Daybreak Inn

This version of Dude Where’s My Couch centers around a major revamp of the Daybreak Inn level in response to common  player issues with level design clarity and enemy distribution. All enemies also give more EXP now. Hooray! Read on for the full changelog and the new trailer at the bottom of the page.

What’s new:

  • Daybreak Inn has been completely redone
    • lobby and backroom layout has completely changed
    • simplified dungeon challenge and path
    • removed the boiler and light codes
    • removed 3 legged stools, bumblebats, and plastic plants from the backrooms
    • added several new item and equipment pickups
    • if you are currently inside the inn, going outside and re-entering will put you in the new layout
  • the late game frog chase sequence has been added
  • the title screen now shows your last location on the overworld map
  • new music for the title screen and the prophet sisters’ caves.
  • set the number of usable hard saves to 3
    • if you are using a save slot over 3, change the number on your save file to be 1-3

What’s changed:

  • increased EXP yield from all enemies
  • time passes slightly slower
  • starting the game as an Otter or Geek will give you a Megaphone by default instead of a Pocketknife
  • you will hop off of a couch once your HP has been fully restored
  • sitting on a couch will make time pass faster
  • corrected issues where picking up an item would change its graphic
  • picking up the flashlight will show a brief tutorial about switching weapons
Known Issues:
  • Entering the caves beneath the Climbing Gloves room will cause the game to crash
  • Many item specials show the wrong icon
  • most of the shadow man’s specials show incorrect text
  • picking up certain equipment will show dialog that doesn’t make sense
  • some equipment pieces have incomplete icons
  • using a freight elevator in the warehouse, then leaving the warehouse without using the freight elevator again will cause strange behavior the next time the freight elevator is entered.
  • several Slicks will still be visible as you leave the Daybreak Inn basement after defeating the boss
  • there may be an occasional crash during battles. the cause is unknown at this time
  • nwjs may ask for network privileges despite DWMC having no network functionality. you can safely deny this permission.
  • there are some spots where you can enter the out of bounds area on the western edge of the map
  • accessing the Sludge Gun from the caves will cause it to respawn when you return to that area from the overworld
