0.9.1 — Now with tutorials!
This update is all about player experience! Featuring tutorials, new roles, item specials, and more, Dude Where's My Couch is approaching the final stages of development. Read on for the full list of changes.
What's New?
- TUTORIALS! You will now see tutorials explaining the basic mechanics of battle, and tutorials that explain contextual situations in battle too.
- If you're loading an older save, you might see multiple tutorials in a row.
- All enemies now have a unique item drop that has the effect of an attack or status move.
- Item specials are now fully available and complete at...
- all Smol Mart locations
- Tüle
- the food court
- the plant shop
- the shadow man's shop
- Specials change every in-game day!
- You can have shopkeepers "tell me more" about items that are on special to see their description.
- You can now choose from 7 new roles when starting a new save file.
- Newly available roles include: Twink, Guy Next Door, Flamer, Chaos Man, Freak, Daddy, and Queen.
- ID cards explain the strengths and weaknesses of each role, as well as their relative difficulty.
- All roles learn different moves by leveling up and are proficient in a different move type.
- When enemies are able to respawn, it will start raining.
What's Changed?
- The number of overworld areas has been increased from 5 to 17 for smoother outdoor performance. These areas all have names.
- Updated nearly all vending machine contents with newly-available food and drink.
- Completed nearly all item/equip icons, with only a handful of equips and food items missing icons, as well as most monster parts.
- Keyboard controls are now shown upon starting a new save file.
- Fewer skips when exiting into the overworld.
- Martin's face graphic has been updated
- Minor changes to player option 4's face graphic
- The southwest corner of the overworld has been adjusted for easier navigation
- Some loose money laying around has been replaced with produce
- Added a transporter pad for easy return visits to the Shadow Man cave.
- Removed the ability for moves to delay the target's next action.
- Most moves that cause the target to fall or that hit multiple times now cost TP instead of SP to prevent overuse by enemies.
- All moves have updated icons to more clearly denote Physical, Special, and Status moves.
- Began adjusting how loose items and trash items work for greater consistency.
- Minor change to Smol Mart layouts.
- Fixed an issue that would cause the game to crash when entering the Library.
Known Issues
- Extreme frame drops when viewing the Daybreak Inn from the rooftop with Davis. Frame rate returns to normal after you hit the confirm button to re-center yourself.
- The Type Matchups tutorial says to go to the Library to learn more, but there is currently nothing about type matchups at the library.
- Certain text doesn't display correctly, showing Times New Roman instead of the intended font
- Some overworld areas may have a visible black void near the edge of the next area.
- BGM may not play properly in certain outdoor areas.
- If loading an older save, some overworld items may have a money icon floating above them.
- Text error when picking up money.
- Going for a swim in Nesva Lake from Lakeside Blvd may cause the player to turn invisible until getting back on land.
- Talking to Mato about your personal strengths may cause the conversation to abruptly end if you chose a role other than the original four.
- The World's Smartest Frog has incomplete dialogue
- the factory is incomplete
- Coming into contact with Fama's gate doesn't activate the nearby transporter pad
- Wrap shopkeeper takes a long time to walk over to you
- Entering Hydra Tower may or may not prevent movement. Make a hard save before entering to be safe.
- picking up certain equipment will show dialog that doesn’t make sense
- some equipment pieces and other items have incomplete icons
- using a freight elevator in the warehouse, then leaving the warehouse without using the freight elevator again will cause strange behavior the next time the freight elevator is entered.
- Entering City Government will show a line of NPC dialogue every time you enter.
- several Slicks will still be visible as you leave the Daybreak Inn basement after defeating the boss
- there may be an occasional crash or softlock during battles. the cause is unknown at this time. Reload your last autosave to continue.
- if you choose the "Swap" option with no weapon equipped, the game will softlock
- there are some spots where you can enter the out of bounds area on the western edge of the map
- selecting the Rest option in battle almost always allows a second turn.
- there may or may not be issues entering the Plant Shop
- there is no visual distinction between open and closed Smol Marts at night.
- minor issues with NPC dialogue and cutscenes.
- incomplete player battle sprites.
