0.8.3: the NPC update
Hey everyone! Happy Sunday! This week’s update is pretty big. Here are the details:
⚠️It is recommended that you start over or at least remove all of your armors before updating⚠️
What's New:
- Most/all NPCs have names, voice SFX (animal crossing vibes), and at least 5 lines of dialogue.
- Added a new sidequest that unlocks after the corporate office dungeon is completed
- Technically that means this quest won’t be accessible til next update
- Anger Milk: a drink that hurts but gives you heavy stat boosts
- Enemies can no longer see you in the dark. Strategically unequip your torch to sneak past enemies, but don’t forget you move slower in the dark!
- All non-weapon equips have been recategorized into simpler terms: Hats, Tops, Bottoms, Shoes, Accessories, and Special.
- This means any equips you are currently wearing will be glitched out unless you remove them before updating,
Fixes & updates:
- Cleaned up water, rock walls, and some other outdoor tiles.
- Fixed an issue that would softlock the game as you walk past the guards into the mall.
- The items in Wrap now display their correct icons on the table.
- Fixed an issue that would cause you to pick up the hotel desk girl’s ID anytime you hit A.
- Fixed an issue that would cause certain NPCs to say their lines as soon as you cross into their area.
- Temporarily removed the ability to select your appearance when you start a new file.
- This will come back later on when I make backsprites for the other character options. I just have other priorities at this time.
Last time:
- Partridge Valley/Heights has officially been renamed "Dude! Where's My Couch?" and there's a new logo/title screen to match.
- Bosses no longer leave behind active orbs, and instead give you inactive orbs.
- Bosses do leave behind an equip to grant one of their signature moves.
- Gumlord’s Gum Drop = Flooding
- Rager’s Punching Glove = Power Punch
- Karen’s Toxic Barb = Toxic Barb
- Racket’s Sticky Hand = Grabbing Hands
- Manmud’s Mud Stone = Mud Bath
- The Torch and some other weapons have had their basic attack replaced with a different move
- basic attacks are still usable from the Moves menu
- Most/all equips have had their stats improved
- Each of the four player options has been differentiated slightly with a light class system:
- Depending on your choice, the player will be a bear, jock, otter, or geek.
- Each one is slightly more proficient with a particular element and has different stat distribution.
- Billboards across the city change as the game progresses to give subtle hints and pointers.
- Started work on NPC schedules/rewriting dialogue
What to test:
- Are battles too easy (especially bosses) now that equips actually raise your stats, or do they feel right?
- Fight as many different enemies as you can at as many different levels as you can.
- Do any enemy movesets stand out as being too overpowered, too repetitive, or using status moves too much?
- Try out the dungeon challenges for the hotel, mall, and warehouse.
- Were you able to find your way there?
- Was there anything that was too confusing or difficult?
- Was the boss fight any good?
- Explore the overworld and caves
- How far can you get without the proper equipment?
- Did you get stuck anywhere?
- Did you get lost?
- Are there any areas that are missing something?
- Are there any areas that look bad?
Known Issues:
- Entering Tüle may cause unexpected results. Probably best to stay out for now.
- The Torch’s attack move “flame strike” doesn’t display properly in battle.
- Some NPCs might not have the right voice sound effect, especially if their lines are triggered not by directly talking to them (ie: cutscenes, shops, etc)
- If you find an NPC/scene/whatever with no voice or no name or the wrong voice or name, please let me know.
- Some NPCs may cause all text after you talk to them to use their voice until you talk to another NPC with a voice.
- Some NPCs might appear in more than one place at the same time.
- Level up screen doesn't have enough contrast
- Certain climbing ropes have glitchy behavior.
- Some cave areas are barebones.
- You cannot visit the Heart Rose guy at his apartment.
- If you lose to certain enemies, the game might act like you died twice.
- Please comment or message me if you find one that does this
- The game may crash when stepping on certain specific tiles
- please comment or message me if you find a spot that does this.
- Additional party member graphics are incomplete
- Graphical issues with some outdoor tiles & fences
- There is a slight “jump“ as you cross over into a new area
- Food items in the mall might appear a full tile higher than where they should.
